Neurobiology of Addiction

This two-CEU workshop discusses the effects of addiction on the brain, including the structural changes that may occur in the first three years of life due to high stress environments with resultant affect dysregulation. Attachment, parenting style, and ensuing adult characteristics are covered briefly along with the link between earned secure attachment and sobriety. The latest drug trends are presented: Vaping; Marijuana: Alcohol: Molly; LSD, DMT, DXM, and Salvia; and other Drugs. The stages of substance abuse and variables contributing to rapid progression as well as family involvement in the treatment of substance abuse are presented.
Amy Rose has been in the field of chemical dependency for the past 13 years and is the Program Director of Recovery Happens. She graduated from American River College with a CADC II certification, the highest standard in the field of addiction. She is currently attending California State University, Sacramento, completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with a final goal of a Master’s degree to become a licensed marriage and family therapist.
