Instructor Information:
Nabil Hassan El-Ghoroury, Ph.D., CAE, received his Bachelor’s in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Binghamton University. He speaks Spanish fluently. He is the Executive Director of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), representing over 32,000 marriage and family therapists and trainees in California. Earlier, he served Associate Executive Director at the American Psychological Association (APA), where he directed the graduate student group (APAGS) within the APA.
Dr. El-Ghoroury practiced as a pediatric psychologist for 7 years at MetroHealth Medical Center. Nabil saw patients with a variety of mental health and health conditions in the Pediatrics Department and served as the consulting psychologist for a bilingual pediatric primary care clinic. He was faculty in Case School of Medicine in Pediatrics, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, and also adjunct faculty in the Department of Psychology at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. El-Ghoroury was involved in other associations as a leader. Among these were as a founding board member of the American Arab, North African, and Middle Easter Psychological Association and as Chair of the Committee on Early Career Psychologists for APA.
Nabil has presented at numerous national conferences on topics related to student and professional development in psychology, leadership opportunities for graduate students, social media, and health and educational disparities in autism. He has spoken frequently about how to afford graduate school, describing the NHSC Loan Repayment Program to numerous audiences of students and recent doctorates.
Description of Presentation:
Dr. El-Ghoroury will provide CAMFT updates among which are discussion of code of ethics, annual conferences, CAMFT’s website and its usefulness to members. In addition, he will explain recent and pending BBS changes and issues. He will discuss Federal, California and local matters that pertain the CAMFT members. Dr. El-Ghoroury describes the benefits of CAMFT’s legal consultation services and when to use them. His presentation also includes discussion and parameters of a professional will.
Educational Goals:
This workshop will summarize the many aspects of CAMFT and its relationship to members.
Measurable Objectives:
As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to
- Describe at least 3 recent/pending legislations and how marriage and family therapist may be impacted by the bills.
- Identify 1 resource for legal consultation for therapists.
- Identify important components of a professional will.

This is appropriate for all levels.
Award of Course Completion Certificates:
Upon completion of course, attendees will receive a Certificate for 1.5 CEUs or a Certificate for Attendance Hours.

Sierra Foothills CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, and LEP as well as non-licensed AMFT, ASW, APCC, graduate students and trainees. This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, and LEP as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
