Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing:  What Is It and How Can Clients Benefit?

June 9, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon

Description of the Workshop:

This presentation is not a formal training on how to conduct EMDR, but rather to provide clinicians with a brief overview of how EMDR can be beneficial in the treatment of trauma. By having a better understanding of the 8 phases of treatment within EMDR, clinicians can provide their clients with more comprehensive information when referring them out to an EMDR specialist. In addition, clinicians can also determine if EMDR is a treatment modality that they would like to gain training in to incorporate within their own practice.

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize the origins of EMDR
  2. Describe an overview of trauma and PTSD
  3. Discuss how the brain processes trauma
  4. Tell how EMDR treats trauma
  5. List what clients can expect at the end of treatment
  6. Explain research on treatment outcomes for EMDR
  7. Discuss EMDR as treatment for other concerns
  8. Assess becoming EMDR trained/certified
  9. Use resources regarding EMDR
