EMDR Therapy: An Overview and Live Demonstration

Description of Presentation:
Kim Johnson, LCSW, will present a practical overview of EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing Therapy): how EMDR Therapy works (including the neurobiological foundation) and how it can be integrated in treatment with different clients with different diagnoses. Participants will learn how effective EMDR Therapy can be by discussing case examples and observing a live demonstration. Participants are encouraged to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn and ask questions. The presenter invites audience interaction and participation.

Instructor Information:
Kim Johnson, LCSW, graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1990. After graduation, she was trained in EMDR Therapy in 2000. Kim is an EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) Certified Therapist and approved Consultant and Trainer for EMDR Therapy Basic Training. Kim has been in private practice for over 30 years and integrates EMDR with most of her clients. She specializes in utilizing EMDR with children as young as age two and clients with Dissociative Disorders. Additionally, she is the co-facilitator for the Greater Sacramento Regional EMDR Network and she speaks internationally about EMDR Therapy to encourage other therapists to learn more about it.

Educational Goals:
After completing this overview and live demonstration on EMDR Therapy, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the benefits of EMDR Therapy.
  2. Explain how EMDR can be integrated into a therapist’s practice.

Measurable Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the Neurobiology foundation of EMDR Therapy.
  2. Identify the 8 Phases of EMDR Therapy and the DSM-5 Diagnoses that can be treated using EMDR Therapy.
  3. Apply techniques learned from first-hand observation of EMDR to a therapist’s practice.

Course Training Level:
This is appropriate for all levels.

Award of Course Completion Certificates:
Upon completion of course, attendees will receive a Certificate for 2 CEUs or a Certificate for 2 Attendance Hours after completing a course evaluation.

Early registration closes on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 6 p.m. Refunds may be provided prior to the close of registration, minus a $5 registration refund fee. No refunds are available after the close of registration. No partial credit is given for arriving late or leaving early.
