Title: Eating Disorders: Understanding the Basics of the Most Life-Threatening Mental Health Disorders.
Description of the course: Eating disorders are complex illnesses which require comprehensive treatment approaches. This course is designed to clarify essential information for the appropriate diagnosis and management of eating disorders in a variety of settings. Specifically, this course will provide an overview of the different types of eating disorders, including Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia, Bulimia, and others, as well as an exploration of their clinical presentations.
Objectives:
- Describe the difference between the diagnostic criteria for Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorders.
- Describe how the DSM-5 characterizes the severity markers for the various eating disorder diagnoses.
- Describe two or more indicators that a client may be appropriate for a higher level of care than outpatient therapy/counseling in order to assist clinicians.
Target Audience: This workshop is for licensed clinicians (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC and LEP) as well and pre-licensed AMFT, ASW, APC, graduate students and trainees.

Instructor’s name and credentials: Leilani Sechler, LMFT since 2016, received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Sacramento, and her master’s degree in counseling psychology from National University in 2012. During her master’s program, she trained as a grief counselor in the hospice program at Kaiser Permanente before settling on a career in eating disorders. Ms. Sechler is the program director at Center for Discovery in Sacramento, California, and has been working in the field of eating disorder treatment since 2012. In addition to eating disorders, Ms. Sechler specializes in grief and loss and PTSD and uses cutting edge Brainspotting therapy to resolve trauma.
